Our Chihuahua Journey...

Well, it has been one year since we were blessed with babies and I was thinking what I should do with the website as we won’t be doing the baby thing for a very long time.  I have decided to take my camera everywhere I go and take pictures of all the Chihuahuas I run into and put them up with a little bio.  I have seen some great little Chi’s out there, but none more inspiring than Angel, an amazing little boy with long white hair with tan markings that was born with no front legs.  He was having a blast playing in the grass.  He came right to me, rubbed up against me and just begged me to pet him.  What an awesome little boy.

6 Weeks! 09/09/2010

The babies are weaned onto canned food, piddle pad trained and are running around playing.  Future Forever Families are starting to visit.  AKC paperwork is in and vet appointment has been made for health check and 1st puppy shot next weekend.   Penelope is doing great.  This pregnancy was a close call and a wake-up call as to how fragile these little babies really are, even when adults.  I am so thankful that I have a great group of supportive friends and for my Mother, the QUEEN Of BOTTLE FEEDING!

32 Days... 09/01/2010

Everybody is doing amazing thanks to my Mother bottle feeding them and taking the best care of them that anybody could have ever have imagined.  They are all healthy, great weight, eating out of the plate and they are already piddle pad trained.  Penelope has been for a few visits to lick, sniff and love.  Here is the link to the most recent photos.

Penelope is doing AWESOME.  Her health is right back to where she was before she got pregnant.  Her milk is drying up and she is missing her babies.  They are at my Mother's house 1/2 mile away getting the BEST care and are gaining weight and looking fantastic.  Every night when I come home from there, Penelope goes a little crazy sniffing me as she smells her babies on me.  There was just NO WAY to keep them all together and not have them nurse.  This was the only way to ensure that everybody heals and grows.

Peabody, the little boy will be staying with us.  I just fell so much in love with him and he reminds me so much of Penelope.  We also had a Forever Home visit yesterday.  Looks like it's going to be "Bubbles/Dorothy" or "Little Miss Mugsey".  Next visit will seal the deal I am sure.  Next Forever Home visit will be for "Sophia", my tiny little angel.  I would have loved to have kept her, but I do not want a female around with her Father and Brother.  Plus, I need some time to recuperate from this experience before I even think about doing this again.  This was a very scary experience this time and if it were not for my Mother stepping up to the plate and taking the puppies in to feed them and all the help, support and advice from my Friends, this would not have turned out so good.  So, THANK YOU!

On our way to the Emergency Room...

Picture
On Monday, Penelope started pacing, panting, scooting, and listing like she was going to fall over.  Her body temp got really high.  We rushed her to our vet, they took a few x rays and some blood work.  Her calcium lever was life-threateningly low, (eclampsia) & hypoglycemia.   They gave her some calcium via an IV with some fluids and that stabilized her enough to get her to the emergency hospital.  They ran some more test and gave her more calcium throughout the night.  5 Puppies was too much for her to produce milk for so her body was depleting her own calcium for her pups. She can no longer feed her puppies, they have been moved to a family members house where they are being bottle fed every 3-4 hours.  She is MUCH better and the pups are eating well.  For those of you thinking about breeding for money, think again.  So far this litter is close to the $2,000 mark and we haven't even started puppy visits, shots, check-ups, de-worming, AKC registration... We do it for the love of our Babies and so others can enjoy them as well.
